II XI made it three wins on the bounce when they defeated Millpark
II XI at The Demense on Sunday. On winning the toss Saints captain
Barry Mullan decided to bat.
Opening
pair Paul Mullan and Craig Boultwood got off to a great start
and put on 42 before Boultwood (28)got one that nipped back
between bat and pad to clip off stump. Mullan who is revelling
in his new found opening role played well and after the lose
of Brian Hall (1) he and 17 year old Conor Patterson put on
54 for the 3rd wicket. Patterson was trapped leg before with
the score on 116 in the 23rd over. Mullan was then joined by
the evergreen Trevor Long. Unfortunately shortly after Long's
arrival Mullan (54) took a rush of blood and tried to hit one
onto Saintfield's Main Street, ultimately he missed and was
bowled. Alister Glover(20) was looking in confident form before
he too was adjudged leg before in the 30th over. With the score
on 145 for 5 Millpark sensed they were into the Saintfield tail
when Phillip Murray walked to the crease, however Murray had
other ideas and set about the Millpark attack with great venom.
Murray blasted th ball to all parts of the ground hitting 9x4's
and 3x6's on his way to 84. Murray was bowled with two balls
remaing as he tried another big shot. Not to be outdone Ross
Boultwood replace Murray and promtly smashed his first ball
for a 6, the Saintfield innings clsing on 267 for 6 with Boultwood
(8no) and Long (25no)
Millpark
were never really in the hunt with such a mamoth target to reach
and appeared content to gain as much batting practice as possible
for their younger players. Tierney (33) and McCourt (20) batted
well as did some of the younger members in paticular 14 year
old Ryan Dennison and Jordan Maxwell. Millpark finished on 135
all out to give Saintfield a 132 run victory.
