Saintfield
2nd XI Match Report
.v.
Dundrum 2nd XI
Date:
2nd June 2007 at The Demense
Toss Won By: Dundrum
Saintfield
entertained their local rivals Dundrum at The Demense in the
Intermediate Cup on Saturday. On a day when the weather was
more akin to mid-October than the first Saturday in June, a
biting wind blowing all afternoon, Saintfield put together a
good team performace to gain a 10 wicket victory.
Winning
the toss Dundrum captain Stephen Maxwell elected to bat first
and as with the previous weeks win over Ards Saintfield's opening
bowlers of Ross Boultwood and Barry Mullan grabbed early success.
Boultwood continued his good early season form and bowled a
terrific spell of 10 overs including 5 maidens and collected
3 wickets for 15 runs. Saints captain Mullan also collected
3 wickets for 35 runs in his 10 over spell. For Dundrum captain
Stephen Maxwell (40) and wicketkeeper Alan Gordon (29) batted
sensibly to rescue Dundrum from the precarious position of 35
for 5. Last man Patrick Calvert (14) played some nice shots
before Tommy Stewart bowled Calvert with his second ball and
Dundrum's innings closed on 148 in the 49th over.
Saintfield
stuck with the opening partnership of Saintfield veteran Alan
McCaughtry and Paul Mullan that had performed well the previous
week against Ards. It was to be a partnership that Dundrum would
be unable to break all day despite the best efforts of all their
bowlers. Mullan was fortunate on a couple of occasions when
leading edges or mistimed strokes landed wide of fielders and
McCaughtry was dropped in the closing stages of the innings.
However Dundrum could not separte the pair, Mullan finished
the game with two consecutive 4's in the 24th over to finish
on 90 not out his innings included 10 x 4's and 2 x 6's. McCaughtry
who sustained a calf strain during his innings was content to
play the supporting role and finished on 36 not out an innings
including 4 x 4's and 1 x 6.
Saintfield
return to league action this week with a fixture against Millpark.
