Saintfield
1st XI Match Report
.v.
Donaghcloney 1st XI
Date:
2nd June 2007 at The Factory Ground
Toss Won By: Donaghcloney
Saintfield
grabbed their third league win of the season with an emphatic
10 wicket victory away to Donaghcloney. Donagcloney won the
toss and elected to bat, with light drizzle, the Donaghcloney
skipper David Marshall had reckoned on the bowling conditions
to be difficult early on. However Saintfield proved otherwise.
Saints
opening pace attack of Captain Mark McBriar and Mark Yeates
has been added to with the new signing of New Zealander John
Paine. Together this three combined to put the 'Cloney to the
sword. McBriar in particular was in destructive form bowling
his ten overs straight through and collecting 5 wickets for
19 runs his spell included 3 maiden overs. Mark Yeates picked
up 2 for 14 in 6 overs and the introduction of Paine for his
Saintfield debut soon wiped up the tail as he collected three
wickets for 2 runs in 1.4 overs. The only Donaghcloney batsman
to offer any resistance was Captain David Marshall who reached
22 before Paine removed his leg stump, Donaghcloney managing
just 55 runs in 22.4 overs.
Saintfield openers of Maurice Clegg and Richard Owens made short
work of the run chase reaching 59 in 10th over. Clegg in particular
played some delightful attacking strokes to reach 39 not out
including 8 x 4's, Owen's finishing on 9 not out as Saintfield
cantered to a ten wicket victory.
Saintfield know there will be more difficult fixtures ahead
in coming weeks starting at home this Sunday to Larne.
