If
Saintfield thought Saturday’s batting performance was
good Sunday’s surpassed it as they hit 300 in their 50
overs. Skipper Mark McBriar won the toss and elected to bat
on what was his 30th birthday.
Again openers Clegg and Harrison set a good pace before Clegg
was caught at mid on for 21. Woodruff (10 was caught behind
of the bowling of Cheeter and Cheeter then trapped McCavery
(8) leg before. Stewart (25) batted well before getting bowled
by a quicker delivery from spinner Shanks. This dismaissal brought
former Indian one international Noel David to the crease for
his Saintfield debut. David did not disappoint the watching
public as he smashed his way to a superb 88. Harrison was stumped
one short of his first senior 50 but this goal is surely not
too far away for the promising young all-rounder. Mullan had
made 17 before a mix up in communications led to him running
himself out. David was eventually caught in the deep, if Millpark
thought this was the end of the run feast skipper Mark McBriar
had other ideas as he picked up were David had left off and
blasted a swashbuckling 46 not out as the Saintfield innings
closed on 300 for 9.
Again the Saintfield bowlers were in no mood to let their opponents
settle. Yeates had McCart (20) caught by Harison at square leg
and when Wilton (22) stumped by Geoff Brittain off the bowling
of David the Millpark innings fell apart. David finished with
figures of 3 for 13 and Woodruff 3 for 20 as Saintfield skittled
Millpark for 97.
