1st XI Match Report
.v.
East Belfast 1st XI
Date:
3rd June 2006 at The Demense
Toss Won By: East Belfast
Saintfield
strolled into the semi final of the junior cup with a comprehensive
victory over East Belfast by 231 runs. Surprisingly when the
East Belfast captain won the toss he put Saintfield in on a
glorious batting wicket.
From the off Saintfield were in control with openers Clegg (32)
and Stewart (84) putting on 100 for the first wicket in 25 overs.
When Clegg was dismissed Woodruff joined Stewart and this pair
took the game to East Belfast with aggressive batting which
unfortunately ended with Stewart being run out on 84 in the
33rd over. McCavery was caught in the covers for 5 and a quick
fire 23 from Paul Mullan added to Saintfield’s total.
Woddruff was on fire as he blitzed the bowlers to all parts
of the ground on his way to 91. He was eventually out with one
ball of the innings left caught behind of the bowling of Stevenson.
The Saintfield innings closed on a magnificent 275 for 5.
Saintfield’s bowlers matched the batsmen with quality
bowling from the word go. Phillip Murray was the pick of the
bowlers picking up 4 for 10 in 8 overs. Skipper Mark McBriar
and Gareth Harrison both returned figures of 2 for 2 as a weak
East Belfast side collapsed to 44 all out. Saintfield now progress
to the cup semi finals were they will meet local rivals North
Down II on the 1st of July.
