Saintfield
1st XI Match Report
.v.
Dungannon 1st XI
Date:
13th August 2006 at The Demense
Toss Won By: Saintfield
Following
the victory over Templepatrick on Saturday Saintfield entertained
Dungannon at The Demense on Sunday. Somewhat disappointingly
Dungannon only arrived with nine men due to a number of late
cry-off’s on the morning of the game. Given this on winning
the toss Saintfield captain Mark McBriar put Dungannon into
bat.
Dungannon’s opening pair of McNamee and Adrain looked
useful and punished poor deliveries. The introduction of John
Wheeler got Saintfield the breakthrough when he had Adrain (17)
trapped leg before with the score on 25. Kelly then joined McNamee
and Kelly who previously has played cricket in the North West
played some aggressive strokes particularly to anything short.
McNamee (15) departed with score on 62 well caught by skipper
McBriar at leg slip of Noel David’s bowling. After McNamee’s
departure Kelly struggled to get a partner to stay with him
with wickets falling at regular intervals with David’s
off-spin causing the Dungannon batsmen great difficulties. David
finished with 5-23 off his ten overs. Dungannon finished on
128 for 8 in the 45th over with Kelly unbeaten on 52.
Saintfield’s batsmen were again on top form with 17 year-old
Gareth Harrison continuing his recent good form to reach 71
not out, an innings that included some text book cover and straight
drives. Harrison was ably supported by the more experienced
Ray McCavery who finished on 38 not out, the casualty in the
Saintfield innings being Maurice Clegg (4) who was caught at
mid on by Mehtha off Dougherty’s bowling, as Saintfield
won comfortably in the 23rd over.
