Donaghcloney’s openers made steady progress although they struggled against the accurate bowling of Phillip Murray who bowled four maidens in his first five overs, before being taken off. First to strike for Saintfield was Mark Yeates, who’s pace had troubled the ’Cloney openers, and he had Hanna (7) trapped leg before. Marshall (30) was next to go caught by skipper McBriar off Woodruff’s bowling. A rush of blood from Derby (5) gave Noel David his first victim when wicketkeeper Boultwood produced another top-notch stumping. This left Donaghcloney at 53 for 3, however a stand between Knox (22) and Hylands put the pressure back on Saintfield, before Mullan caught Knox at mid-wicket off the bowling of Harrison. Hylands appeared to realise that there was very little batting to come and went after the Saintfield bowling reaching 66 before McBriar had him caught and bowled. Of the remaining six ‘Cloney batsmen five got ducks and only Copland 13 not out troubled the scorers as their innings closed on 157 all out in the 37th over.

Saintfield’s innings got off to a great start with 10 coming in the first over. Saintfield had reached 31 after 10 overs with openers Clegg and Wheeler going well. Clegg (19) was caught on the mid-off boundry, by a superb one handed catch by McClure. Wheeler (41) was also caught on the boundary by Marshall, leaving Saintfield on 76 for 2. The only other wicket to fall was Woodruff (16) bowled by Knox with the score on 99. That left Saintfield needing 59 to win which McCavery (40no) and Harrison (28no) knocked off with relative ease to give Saintfield a seven wicket victory.
